Ch'i Bocol Community Hostel

Did not feel safe walking around the property. Beware of random men nearby. Location is inconvenient if you want to go to Semuc.

The hostel is in a beautiful location and it’s definitely a unique stay. But for the price of the dorm, the beds are super super uncomfortable (it was like sleeping on a hard floor and we like a hard bed), the dorms are 5 mins up a VERY steep hillside and the only 2 toilets on the property (only one of which you can take a no2 in) are right at the very bottom, so obviously everyone goes to the bathroom right outside the dorm room in the middle of the night. If you get unwell here, this place is a nightmare to stay. The atmosphere is nice enough, but I think other hostels have got things figured out more than this place. You can cook, but at a cost and it feels discouraged. Personally we found the manager very caring and considerate and he was kind to us and showed ambitious plans of upgrading the hostel however, as a young female travelling here on my own, I wouldn’t have felt comfortable with the sexually liberated atmosphere that he seems quite keen to promote.

Had such a lovely stay here. Daniel was really helpful. The tour to Semuc was great however was a very long walk there through the jungle. Wouldn’t fault my stay here apart from the beds! The mattresses are so thin and so are the pillows it was actually painful on the hip bones
