We stayed with the guys at esperanto for just over 6 weeks, and there are some definite pros and cons about the place.
First off i’d like to address the location issue many people say the area is bad or unsafe this is completely untrue, the area is fine and me and my girlfriend comfortably walked around all time of day with no problems AT ALL, it’s close the beach and near a few local shops. the hostel itself is quite nice and has a pool and hot tub (although the hot tub water is cold). unfortunately the place is let down by it’s complete lack of atmosphere and attitude of some of the volunteers. the majority of the time we stayed very few other guests showed up and although most of the staff are cool one or two bad apples can spoil the bunch. overall the hostel is cheap and clean and has everything you need for a stay but lacks atmosphere and the x factor. 5/10.

Amazing facilities with lots of space to be around. As it has a good reputation, it was the hostel where I've met more people, especially foreigners, something that has been difficult to happen on this 2-month trip. The pool and jacuzzi are great areas to stay and chill, as well as have fun with other people. It's located in the worst area of Fortaleza so it's difficult to go out, but glad that the hostel is a great place to stay instead.

Great hosts with lots of the essential local information. Not a walkable neighbourhood and difficult to get around without Uber. But hey, you don't need to leave the hostel when it has a pool and they have food delivered for you!
