Catch the Ella Train Hostel is actually a small old fashioned house that has been turned into a hostel little by little.
The hostel is located in Peradeniya in a small village which is 6km far from Kandy City. It takes 10 min by bus or by tuc-tuc to get into town.
The train station (Peradeniya Junction Railway Station) is 700m from the Hostel
And if you catch the Ella train from Peradeniya junction railway station it is less crowded than kandy train station.
You can stay in a completely quite environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Best thing about the hostel is that you can learn a little bit about the history of sri lanka from the sources available in the property. we have around 1000 books on both the history of Sri Lanka and Europe.
Also, a city tour can be arranged where you will learn a lot about the rural side of kandy and sri lanka.

I had a very special stay at Catch the Ella train hostel, which I’ll never forget. Asanka is the perfect host and he’s very accommodating. He took me on amazing tour of Kandy and I had the best time exploring this new city. The hostel is in a perfect location as it feels like your in the jungle but you’re only a short drive away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. The food (made by his aunties) is also 10/10. I couldn’t recommend this hostel more for your stay in Kandy.

This was one of the best Hostels I've ever stayed at! It's a small but clean and comfortable.. The Shower and Toilet is huge and very modern. The beds, both private room and dorm (I slept in both) are so comfy.. There are also really good mosquito nets. Location of the Hostel is quiet and perfect for a more local feel. Very close to the train station. The Highlight of the Hostel though is the owner, Asanka, now a friend. We ate together and he showed me around. Much love! This is the place to go

Great location to get the Ella train away from kandy!
Host taught me to cook a curry and took me on a great day tour.
Very helpful.
