Welcome to AlterNative Hostel!
Ours is a kind and friendly place that welcomes travelers from all across the world. We have a wealth of experience hosting travelers of all kinds. From backpackers to adventure motorcyclists, we know what travelers need and value during their stay.
AlterNative Hostel offers its guests a convenient and comfortable location at the corner of Calle Larga and Avenida Huayna Capac. The former is Cuenca's main hotspot for bars and restaurants, and the latter offers fast and easy access to the local airport and bus terminal. We are within walking distance of the historic center of Cuenca, and the Museo Pumapungo is just a few footsteps from our doors.
We provide fast 24-hour WiFi in all rooms and common areas.
Our hostel has hot water 24 hours a day.
In addition to the hostel's shared kitchen, we offer a special discount for breakfast at our specialty coffee house next door, as well as a full all-day menu.

A really good place to stay in Cuenca with the only downside being the busy road and the extensive traffic noise that goes with it. The downstairs cafe is a gem and although breakfast isn’t included at this hostel, I really recommend having breakfast or even dinner at this quality cafe … the food and coffee are excellent! We enjoyed a night of escapism in the lounge watching movies on HBO. An easy walk into the city centre right past the Inca ruins, along the beautiful river.

I originally had booked here for four nights but didn’t end up staying even one. The location was a hike from the city center which made me unsettled as a solo female traveler and my intuition gave me weird vibes. There was road construction going on right in front of the hostel that was extremely loud and shaking the entire building. The receptionist was super accommodating with reimbursing me for 3/4 of my nights which I appreciated.
