HI Lagos - Pousada de Juventude with breakfast and Wi-Fi included is located within the city center, so you are near the shops and all the facilities you could need for a wonderful holiday also at 5 minutes only from the closest beach where you can sart seeing the cliffs and beautifull rock formation. The most famous attraction about this city.
The bars and some of the nightlife are also just down the road.
Explore the old town walls, museum and the slave market part from the Portuguese navigation History.
Only at 40km from Cabo São Vicente in Sagres (1h by bus) the southwestern most tip of Europe.
And at the same distance from the beautifull village of Monchique ( around 1h by bus ) the highest point in the Algarve.

Good: The staff was very nice. The hostel is well located. Luckily I had a 4-bed all-female dorm by myself for the night.
Bad: For a "youth" hostel, it had lots of people who seemed 40+ just hanging around. The entrance was only locked after midnight, before then anyone could walk in through the lobby and directly up to the room. The bathroom felt more like a gym locker room, and at one point I walked in on someone getting a haircut. There was nowhere to lock my items in the room.

This hostel was perfectly fine. Before coming, I read the reviews and grew nervous but it felt perfectly safe for me and my sister. The staff was incredibly kind and the breakfast was more than adequate. Neither of us had bed bugs, as we feared from the reviews, we did in fact have hot water for showers, and the location was prime. My only qualm was there isn’t a great communal area to hang out in outside of your room. It was quiet, too, so I slept well all 3 nights.

Unsafe (especially for women), bedbugs, cold showers
We arrived at the hostel and got informed, that I was the only women in the hostel, so they’ve had to put men in women’s dorms. It let to the women’s toilets covered in urine. When going to the toilet, brushing teeth or taking a shower men were going in and out of the women’s bathroom, which was very uncomfortable.
The other guests were very rowdy, and partying in the common area - which is right next to the women’s dorms, until 6am. The staff didn’t do anything about it.
The lockers doesn’t work - the explanation was, that the keys had been stolen…
There’s no hot water in the women’s bathroom.
After staying there for a night, we discovered a lot of red bites… 100% sure it’s bed bugs.
The staff was sweet enough, and the breakfast is free…
