The jungle river lodge is a hidden gem. I've stayed here twice on my travels. The facilities are superb for backpackers. It is located right on the river about six miles from town. They offer hiking tours to Pico Bonito National Park and whitewater rafting. The bar/restaurant faces the river, which is a short 20 foot jump into the river.

Staff are wonderful but things to eat and drink are expensive and with no kitchen, no way to save money. Even if perhaps they allowed you to make your own breakfast/lunch it would make this place more appealing to budget backpackers. Staff and guides are GREAT and have a lot of knowledge of the area. Wifi didnt reach our bedroom and only one hammock on deck which was often fought over. Loved the jumping into the river and the hike to the waterfall was nice but you cant swim. Very cute dogs!

Jungle River lodge is a lovely hostel with a nice vibe in a beautiful location. My room was very clean and had a small locker for valuables, though there wasn’t many plug sockets considering it was a 15 bed dorm. WiFi didn’t quite reach the room, but was good in the communal areas/bar. Rafting booked through the hostel was amazing and fairly priced. The food served at the hostel tastes good and portions are decent however it was quite expensive, and there are no kitchens available to guests. I’d recommend b
