I enjoyed my stay at El Mexa, however, I was only there one night. The staff were very nice and helpful. The vibe was weird though. In my dorm room which was full of guests, I was the only foreigner/traveler. The rest of the guests in my room were local Mexican men who, apparently, use the hostel as an inexpensive place to live. They were nice guys though! There was a language barrier there so we didn't talk too much. It's kinda not what you expect when you stay in a hostel.

Lovely friendly staff at this simple little hostel. Nice rooftop area, basic but serviceable bathrooms, and bunks with curtains. Everything you need really for a couple of nights and only a couple of blocks from the centre.

Couple stayed in private room. If you take a private room make sure to get the one upstairs. our first 2 nights we stayed downstairs and the noise made it very hard to sleep. Upstairs was much better and the staff let us switch for the rest of our stay. cooking facilities were decent and the location was fantastic for us.
