Cerdeira - Home for Creativity is a rural tourism space closely linked to artistic creation and training, located in Serra da Lousa, about 37 kilometers from Coimbra, Portugal. It has ten renovated schist houses and a set of infrastructures and workspaces.
Located in the beautiful mountains of Serra da Lousa, in the center of Portugal, Cerdeira is the perfect charming shale village for your next holiday escape. Here, the unique relationship between nature, art, and the comfort of our shale houses, offers the freedom to live, slow down and create in a truly authentic way.

Hidden away in a small valley at 700m above sea level, Cerdeira was a village of shale houses at risk of disappearing after agricultural activity was abandoned in the middle of the 20th Century. Almost 300 years old, the village was built by courageous people, farmers who lived off the land and who, even if they left in search of a better life for their families, would always come back and visit their homes.
Today, Cerdeira has new stories to tell, of new inhabitants who have, will their persistence and willpower, breathed life and purpose back into this place, of men and women who have knowledgeably restored the houses and made them comfortable as a 21st-century houses should be, of guests who choose the village to spend their holidays, and of artists from all over the world who come in search of inspiration.
Cerdeira is now one of 27 villages that make up the network of Aldeias do Xisto.

The project 'Cerdeira Home for Creativity' emerged from the love and care of two families who decided to rebuild the traditional houses, keeping the village's authenticity and uniqueness.
In 2000, two families that had been friends for years decided to unite in the recovery of some houses in the village.
Cerdeira - Home for Creativity was thought to be a sustainable and inspiring project. Our schist houses have been rebuilt with stone, clay, and native woods, always thinking about the comfort and well-being of our guests.
Creativity combined with Ecological Sustainability and Social Responsibility are fundamental concepts for us, applied not only to the rehabilitation of shale houses and classified heritage but also to the activities around art and creativity that we have developed, and of course, in the involvement with the Local Community.

In these houses, you can enjoy all the comfort provided by a modern home, but without the distractions of the city, immersing any visitor into a space of tranquility and inspiration. In this place, the TV has been replaced by books and board games. By the window, there are no concrete buildings. Instead, you can enjoy a stunning view of the mountains or the picturesque corners of the village. In Cerdeira, no two houses are the same: each one has had the intervention of contemporary craft artists who have created pieces of art inspired by the village and its natural surroundings.
You can make your stay even more special by planning a guided walk, a deer-watching tour, a wine-tasting session, a creative experience, or joining one of the workshops and courses we host at our Arts and Crafts School throughout the year.

Payment upon arrival by credit cards, debit card or cash.

No curfew.

Check-in and check-out:
Check-in can be done between 3 pm and 9 pm, and check-out must be done before 11 am.
Failure to comply with the check-out time reserves us the right to charge 30€ for a late check-out. If the guest does not empty the house within the limit of late check-out (2 pm), an additional night will be charged at the current rate on the website.
