Welcome to AlterNative Hostel!
Ours is a kind and friendly place that welcomes travelers from all across the world. We have a wealth of experience hosting travelers of all kinds. From backpackers to adventure motorcyclists, we know what travelers need and value during their stay.
AlterNative Hostel offers its guests a convenient and comfortable location at the corner of Calle Larga and Avenida Huayna Capac. The former is Cuenca's main hotspot for bars and restaurants, and the latter offers fast and easy access to the local airport and bus terminal. We are within walking distance of the historic center of Cuenca, and the Museo Pumapungo is just a few footsteps from our doors.
We provide fast 24-hour WiFi in all rooms and common areas.
Our hostel has hot water 24 hours a day.
In addition to the hostel's shared kitchen, we offer a special discount for breakfast at our specialty coffee house next door, as well as a full all-day menu.

Fantastic! It's a wonderful, clean, safe place with a great atmosphere and people. Xavier and staff are spectacular. If you have any questions they have answers and recommendations. The rooms are clean and spacious. Great hot showers. The breakfast cafe is delicious. Definitely would come back.

Stayed one night - would have stayed longer if we had time.
Pros: very well equipped kitchen, friendly staff and super lovely owner (we think), comfy beds and pillows, free city maps (good for locating large supermarkets), nice outdoor terrace, great book exchange
Cons: lack of vibe (people just sat on their devices), no fans in room (made it stuffy) or air ventilation from bathrooms (made our room and kitchen stinky when when someone would use it), not enough bathrooms when hostel full

Great hostel. I only stayed here one night so didn’t experience much of an atmosphere. Lots of lovely places to chill and hang out, and the beds were very comfy.
