The El Zopilote Hostel and Permaculture Farm is a backpackers hostel and a permaculture farm at the same time. We offer various types of hospitality like private rooms, dormitories, camping areas and hammocks. We organise many activities like free yoga , permaculture courses, cacao ceremonies, volcanoes tours, massages , workshops and lots of other activities. We have a vegetarian and vegan farm to table restaurant open all day and Tue and Sat we have Pizza night party, with fire shows, dancing, natural cocktails and fun.
We are in the Nicaraguan Ometepe Island, in the area of Santa Cruz / Madronal, in the Maderas volcano, one km before Balgue. We are located near to some of the best and finest attractions of the area such as Volcano Maderas, Volcano Concepcion and Playa Santa Cruz, amongst other interesting spots of our location. The farm is 300m from the main road and that keep the place an oasis of peace...
We have various types of hospitality on offer. Private rooms, dormitories, camping areas and hammocks are situated in various locations on the farm. Everything has been built or planned to be immersed in the natural environment and to respect it greatly. Our great variety of choices means that our hospitality is accessible to all kinds of people and budgets.
The hostel is located in a slope and there is always some breeze that keeps the rooms naturally fresh and ventilated so we don't need to waist energy in using fans and definitely no air conditioner.
Bring a flash light for the night, there are lights in all the huts but the footpaths that connect them have few lights to keep the habitat more natural.

listen, this place is no 5* hostel , but its an unforgettable experience and allows us as humans to connect back to simpler times in nature. go there with an open mind :)

Dreadful place. Weird hippie vibe with rooms that leak from the roof and showers that have no doors and curtains that don’t close - no roof either and are overlooked by rooms.
No power outlets at the rooms so have to charge at reception.
Toilets are compostable which the hostel keep replying to reviews telling people they should like them. They are terrible and again have very little privacy.
Local staff were great. The volunteers/non-locals were self absorbed. On arrival while supposed to be showing us
