Hiro is an amazing host. Very knowledgeable and friendly, speaks great english. When my rental car company forgot to pick me up, he contacted them on my behalf. Without him, I would’ve been stranded! The location is around a 15 minute drive from Anbo port. Next to a huge raging water near a beautiful jungle. Definitely the coolest location I’ve stayed at.

The location is close to Onoaida, one of the three main areas in the island. There is no easy way to get there if you are not renting a car, so I'd say the place is not meant for highly budgeted travelers.That said you want to have a car to explore Yakushima effectively. Hiro is a very welcoming and excellent host with a lot of knowledge of the area and has good food, sightseeing and hiking recommendations. I loved the approach to the guesthouse, with the bridge and dense forest.

This hostel is one of the cleanest I experienced, and taken into account that it is on the jungle side of the island! The owner really goes the extra mile and helps/recommends w/advice for trips, modes of transport or whatever you need to know. Given the fact that there are no shops or restaurants around, he provides a selection of food and beverages for the same price as in the shop! If you leave the window open and the insect shield closed, you‘ll fall asleep w/sound of the river + grashoppers
